There are a couple of quick things you can do to make this forum more useful:
Adding your photo to the forum
Forums often use what’s known as an “avatar” — a thumbnail photo of you so people can instantly see who is part of a discussion without having to remember everyone’s usernames. If you’d like to add one, you can sign up for a free account with Gravatar (globally-recognized avatar) here. You can upload any image there, and it will appear on this and other blogs that support Gravatar, as long as you use the same email address to sign up.
Adding your Idealist Profile link to the forum
Since this is a public forum, you probably don’t want to post your email address or other personal information here. You can use Idealist’s messaging system to communicate while still protecting your privacy. Here’s the setup.
- Go to your Idealist profile by clicking here. Log in there as well, if prompted.
- On the left side of your Idealist.org profile page, click “Show my profile URL”
- Copy the link. It should end with a bunch of letters and numbers.
- Now on Idealistnyc.org, click the “Edit” button below your name.
- Paste the link into the “Idealist Profile Link” box
People using the forum can now go directly to your Idealist profile to send you messages, view your orgs and Idealist Groups, and connect with you.
